Not appearing in program list?

hi, ive installed office 2007 with no dramas, however microsoft word does not
appear to be the default program from .doc files. ive tried changing this by
going into default programs and changing the defaults, but when in the 'open
with' window word does not appear, nor do any microsoft office components.
ive browsed for word and found it where i select it and press ok, but it
still doesnt add it to the list or make it the default. any thoughts?

First see how to re-register Word when problems crop up opening files
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ReRegisterWord.htm and if that doesn't
fix it select a document in Windows Explorer, right click and choose Open
with...

From the ensuing dialog select Word (winword.exe) and check the box to
always open with this application. If Winword.exe is not listed in the
preconfigured list, select 'Choose Program' at the bottom of the list and
navigate to the folder C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12 and pick
it from that folder.

"Can't be bothered"... I've been at it for 4 hours... prob. read 40 posts,
here and on the net. Lots of people with the problem, no one listening
carefully enough to give a proper answer... just the Copy-and-paste
unhelpfull PAT answers What else would you call it if your just pasting
suggestions from the "standard replies" list.

Did you "bother" to right-click on the filename and choose Open With,
and also choose the option to do the same for all files of this type?

Having read Graham's response covering all the basics to try first, one
wonders what you were about to "copy-and -paste"

I'll excuse that since you've probably not read my other main thread... Yes
to right clicked, yes to usung the default programs dialog box, yes I payed
attention to the make this the default program check box (which is greyed
out), I've used the "winword.exe /r" at the command line, done a repair on
the installation, reinstalled the app, read countless posts, and followed
countless links to fixes that did not apply because the moderator did not
seem to have really read through the posters description very well... but I
did it anyway. I am sorry if I'm getting a bit frustrated, and personally
appologize if I have flamed/offended. I just need a solution, or as the
other poster mentioned, just an admission that it's a "feature" and then I'll
quit worrying about it untill it gets "improved"
