I ried to network my desktop running xp pro and my llaptop running xp home.
Both have installed all of the updates. Sometime when I view workgroups both
computers can "see" each other, but when I double click the "other" computer
I am told that I do not that I do not have access rights to that computer and
I should consult my network adminastrator. Other times when I try to view my
workgroup I am told that I do not have access premission for the workgroup
network.

Both computers have sharing enabled on the shared documents folder. When I
show my network places on both computers they only display their local shared
folder. When I try to map these folders, I am told that the network path
does not exist.

One other datapoint. I have multiple firewire ports on my desktop and I am
running a network bridge.

Any thoughts?

I think this maybe due to a mismatch between the 'speed' of the machine
versus the speed of the network connection. I get much the same and must
try to make the connection several times before I can access folders. I get
the same message as you. The 'problem' for me seems to exist between laptop
and desktop not desktop to laptop. If there is a 'fix' I would also be
interested.

With the help of Felix who is a MS online support person, we were able to
determine the problem. There is shared attribute that is associated with
only one of your networks. My shared attribute was associated with my
wireless network not my 1394 network. I moved the shared attibute to my 1394
network on both my laptop and desktop and it worked just fine. To determine
your network attributes.

Click Start, and then click Run. Type "<\\<Computer> name>" (without the
quotation marks) and click OK.

Do you have a firewall installed? make sure that bootp ports are
enabled so that dhcp works
