Hello. I am using Windows XP Media Edition, and after cleaning my machine of
numerous issues, and reinstalling drivers galore, I cannot fax, only the
cover sheet goes through, the fax monitor will not open, I cannot view the
status of my connections, and scans show some type of ethernet card failure,
yet I am connected to the internet by Verizon Fios. I am begging for help,
my husband is job hunting and needs to fax, and I need to fax for graduate
school. Thank you, kind regards, Cindy

If you 'cleaned' your PC, then depending how & with what, you may have
inadvertantly deleted an inportant file.
You may need to run a repair installation of windows, assuming your ethernet
is onboard, the drivers are sourced from either your PC makers site, if a
large OEM eg Dell/HP or a Laptop, otherwise the motherboard site
You could try the ' system file checker' see win help

I will try the system file checker, thanks. I just spent 3 hours on the phone with HP to see if they could find anything wrong, and they did not. So file checker it is.

What fax software are you using?

As another has mentioned you need a 56k modem connection to the
telephone line.

Hope this helps.

Hi Gerry,
I have an Agere fax modem that came installed with the HP Pavilion a1430n pc
that I use. I have Verizon Fios internet, so there is no mix up there, and
the Fax program that I have been using until it went south is the basic
Windows Fax that came installed on the pc. I just did a system file check,
and all protected files are ok. I also spent 3 hours on with HP phone
support, and they could not find anything wrong. My modem in the computer is
connected to our phone line, also a Verizon land line. The only thing I can
think of is to call them and see if their line is causing a problem. I am
open to any and all suggestions, since I am recovering from foot surgery and
unable to drive right now to fax from another location. Thanks to all. Cindy

Can you borrow another working external fax modem. If that works it
could your existing modem has failed. 56k modems are not too expensive
to replace.

Not a bad idea. He could also try accessing the Internet with the dialup
modem.

First, how do I reply without the original message always being there? Just kidding, I will figure that out. I could try another modem, but I have discovered some other inconsistencies, and maybe "DL" above had a good point and I removed some necessary stuff. Since most every thing is backed up, I'm going to scan it all with zone alarm, ad-aware, etc, and reformat. I really appreciate everyone's help and time. Kind regards, Cindy
