Not a personal folder file

Hi!! I just reformated my pc. before doing so, I back up my e-mail into a
..pst file
Now when i try to open it I get a dialog box that reads "the file is not a
personal folder file". I have red some of the comments in this group, and I
have tried them all. I was wondering if anyone who had this problem got to
solve it and how???
Help will be appretiated.

Hmmm. Have you tried Importing from it using the File-Import/Export menu? That's all I can think of at the moment. If attempting to import from the old .pst file gives you the same error, perhaps you can use the following instructions to attempt a repair:

Version of Outlook? What did you try already? Note that when you've backed
up the pst-file while Outlook was still running you've probably damaged it
beyond repair and you'll need your original copy or try to scan it for
errors with scanpst.exe.

It is Office 2003. My old version was also 2003 I had to formatt because i
wamted to clean up everything. I have tried to import, Open, And also remove
the Read only attribute. When i formatted I back up my folders and then copy
them into a cd. I ended with to files, Archive.pst and Outlook.pst. Please
help.!!!!

Like I said; when you've backed up the pst-file while Outlook was still
running you've probably damaged it beyond repair and you'll need your
original copy or try to scan it for errors with scanpst.exe.

If scanpst.exe can't fix it for you you can try third party repair tools
like;
