Norton, Yahoo Messenger, Media Player, IE....

Ok...got a few problems on a laptop, and I cant help but think that
they are ALL related to a problem with Norton Anti-Virus. First let me
just say, this is about my father's laptop, so im going only by what he
has told me. (He still thinks he knows more about computers than I
do...so he doesnt like me trying to fix his comp.)

Some time ago, Norton Antivirus tried to install an automatic update,
but Never finished (not sure why) Now, suddenly the laptop is having a
few problems seemingly unrelated, except for the fact that they all
started around the same time...With Yahoo messenger, he can send and
receive Instant Messages, BUT, can not see either sent or received IMs.
Windows Media Player will not open. And in Internet Explorer (and only
IE) HTML Form Buttons (like a submit button..or a search button..etc)
do not work. There is no responce when they are clicked. Links work
fine, buttons do not. This IE problem is not an issue in Firefox, so it
is localised within IE...

Yahoo and windows mediea player have been uninstalled and reinstalled,
but the problem continues.

Norton Antivirus wont uninstall. We tried to uninstall it, it made it
half way through, and gave a fatal error, then gave the option of
re-installing, which also resulted in a Fatal Error, and we end up in a
loop of fatal errors.

While the problems dont seem related, other than time of occurance, i
just cant help but think that they are all the result of Norton
Antivirus...Anyone seen or heard of this problem? Any ideas on a fix?
