Norton vs. Defender conflict...

Here's an interesting glitch. Windows defender found a file quarantined in
Norton Antivirus' Quarantine area. I told it to ignore it, since it was
safely squirreled away, and I figured that I would have Norton delete it so
there wouldn't be any confusion. When I pressed the "apply actions" button,
WD mulled things over for awhile, then asked if I would like to submit that
file I told it to ignore for further analysis. "Sure. Why not I thought?"
and pressed submit. Immediately a Norton Virus warning pops up and deletes
the offending file. Then up pops a WD error window. I guess SpyNet will have
to do without that one! Question is, how will I ever submit a file if
Norton keeps zapping it?

Good question LuDean;

Here's what I'm thinking, since Norton already detected it and it wound up
in their quarantine they probably have compressed it there in their own
format, so it really wouldn't be much use to Spynet. Certainly WD will not
attempt a removal of such compressed files anyway... either in a
quarantined folder, the system volume area (system restore), or even in an
archived format in a zip/rar/etc type file. So perhaps the best
alternative IMO, is to have Defender ignore the Norton Quarantine folder
altogether via your Options settings... Let's see what other people here
think about this.

As these security products overlap more, multiple detections are probably
going to happen with increasing frequency. I'll confess I haven't ignored
that Norton folder but perhaps I should be.

The obvious solution would be to remove NAV. ;-)

My name is Scott, and I am a Symanteholic.
I used Snortin' Norton for 13 years.
I have been Norton-free for one year.

(If it was only as easy for people to quit drugs or alcohol, the world would
be a far better place.)
