Norton Systemworks Professional 2003 NAV 2003 - Liveupdate keeps quitting, why??

Installed legal version of NSW 2003 on girlfriends computer about 6
months ago. She is running the cruddy Windows ME. Has worked fine for
a long time until recently and LiveUpdate will start then just
disappear from the screen as it is updating. Gone. If I reboot, I can
try again (she also has AOL) and the same will happen.

I am an avid user of Adaware, Spybot, Norton, RegClean to see what is
in startup and several other programs. Only other thing running on
startup is Sygate firewall. But this never caused a problem.

So I completely uninstalled Norton. Also ran Symclean.exe, a Norton
Utility to ensure all remnants of Norton are gone and reloaded her PC
with another Norton 2003 CD (I get them in packs of 10 for my
consulting business).

Same result-Live Update starts then disappears. Sometimes the Norton
Protect icon in the systray will disappear as well.

I have tried a reinstall 3 times even without the firewall
present...but alas same results.

Any ideas on this one...got me stymied (I do have all temp folders
empty when I do an install of Norton). Even liveupdate version 2 does
not help

There is no virus on this machine either.

Thanks so much in advance
Joe

First go to the Symantec site and let it check your NSW. Click on Support,
then Home & Office, Free Technical Support (automated support assistance)
and then choose NortonSystemWorks. It will test the NSW and give
suggestions.
It will probably suggest that your LiveUpdate program needs to be updated.
It also lets you update right there.
If it still won't work:
1)Go to the Norton site to find out how to do a manual uninstall of NSW2003.
2)Use Add-Remove to uninstall NSW
3)Use Symclean.exe
4)I believe there is another cleaner from Norton also. Use it also.
5)Follow the instructions to manually finish the process.
When you are done, install NSW2003.

Thanks. Finally got it working but did nothing different than other
installs previously. Just got lucky this time. Had to then run
Liveupdate about 4 times to get all the updates and it did not crap
out and disappear.

Thanks.

Happy to hear it's working.
I would still go to the Symantec site to let the 'automated support
assistance' check it out as I described below.
