Norton System Works - Clean up freezes

D

Docspec

I have a Dell Inspiron 531 AMD X2 5000+, 4GB RAM, 300 GB HDD, Vista
Home Premium.

I recently downloaded Norton System Works BAsic 2007.
Works fine, except fro Cleanup. Run by itself it crashes (Program not
responding), run as part of Norton One Button Checkup it doesn't stop
scanning (not even after 7hrs).

Symantec Tech Support gave me 2 solutions

A) Clean temp files, and defrag and run Cleanup again

That was nonsense. Nothing changed

B) Cleanup gets in the way of a Vista component. Do a cleanboot and
run Cleanup again.

That actually made sense. I did a clean boot but Norton would not
respond after the clean boot. So it needs a Vista component running.

Before I clean boot 200 times and add one component after another, to
find out which one Norton needs to start, I want to ask:

Does anybody have the same problem?
What component do I need to include in cleanboot, so that Norton
starts, but Cleanup isn't impaired?

Thanks

I personally wouldn't even bother using Norton in the first place, try one
of these:
