Norton questions

1. I just got a P4 with XP Pro and Norton preloaded. The TSR was
loading normally until I had to remove it temporarily. When I tried to
put it back in, I wasn't able to, and some other TSRs that were supposed
to be loading after it failed to load. I tried putting it in the
startup folder and the same thing happened until I double-clicked the
Norton AV main program on my desktop; then the TSR would load and so
would the subsequent TSRs. After installing some other software, I find
that the Norton TSR and other TSRs load, but I get the full Norton
scanner opening on my desktop and have to close it before bootup
proceeds. So how can I get the TSR to load normally again without
loading the actual Norton main program?

2. I use Netscape 7.1 for browsing, mail, and newsgroups on a DSL modem
with Netgear router. I have the email scan set in Norton, but the scan
seems to activate only when I'm sending emails, not when I'm receiving
emails or sending or receiving newsgroup messages. Is it just happening
so fast in the background that I don't see it?

3. Is Norton, my XP Pro built-in software firewall, plus the Netgear
router's hardware firewall adequate, or should I invest in some more
hardware/software?

Many thanks for all replies.

You might want to consider a software firewall to check and catch unwanted
outbound traffic (trojans and the like) as the Winders firewall is inbound
only.

Since you have Netgear router, you don't need the XP firewall; it's
redundant. Disable it and see if you still have the problem with NAV.
