Norton Quarantine Files?

L

Lanny Bender

I just got this plea from a friend:
" I just can't believe this. Dave put a new version of Norton
Anti-Virus on our computer and it quarantined my inbox!!! So instead of
300 emails, I have 0. I've never been able to figure out how to find
where it puts its quarantined files, and even if I DID know, I'd have no
idea how to get it back.
Do you have any suggestions for what I do now?"

Could some of you Norton users please provide me with an answer?

Hi Lanny.

Since you have not given us any information such as version of Norton
Antiviurs, name of virus detected and name of the email client you are
using I will have to give you a generic description on what has
happened... and how you can recover from it.

I'm guessing that the virus was detected within a database file in
Microft Outlook called a .pst file. Norton quarentined this file
because it wasn't able to disinfect the archive. To fix...

[1]Disable Autoprotect temporarily by right clicking the Norton
Antivirus icon in the bottom right of the screen and click disable
auto-protect.
[2]Open up the Quarentine in the Norton Antivirus program

[3]Restore the pst file.

[4]Open Outlook and your email should be visible again. If not you
might have to import the restored pst fie...

How to import .pst file data
To import a .pst file into Outlook, follow these steps: 1. On the File
menu, click Import And Export.
2. Click Import from another program or file, and then click Next.
3. In Select the file type to import from, click Personal Folder File
(.pst), and then click Next.
4. In File to Import, click Browse to locate the .pst file that you
want to import, and then click Next. If you know the path, type it in
the box.
5. In Select the folder to import from, click the folder that contains
the data that you want to import.

If the folder contains subfolders, and you want to include this data
in the import process, click to select the Include Subfolders check
box. If the destination for importing is the currently selected
folder, click Import items into the current folder. Otherwise, click
Import items into the same folder. This creates matching items in the
destination folder that you select.
6. Click Finish.

[5]Go through your email and delete any emails with attachments that
you don't need. Look out for suspicious zip, exe, pif, and scr
attachments.

Get back to us :)
