Norton Missing File

Upon installing the last critical update from Microsoft and the security updates from Norton, I could not get internet access without disabling my Norton 2002 firewall. After un and re-installing, all seems to be working well again except for one thing. When I run Windoctor, I get a problem that says can't be repaired. Says can't find a missing file: symneti.dll. Does anyone know if this file missing is going to cause me more issues or can it be ignored? Have tried hunting for it, I think it may be part of a update patch from Norton for Internet Security and or Firewall.

Don't know if you are having the same problem as I did earlier, but Norton
Firewall 2002 stopped working for me a little earlier immedietly after
installing the last Liveupdate. I had also installed Microsoft's last
critical update last night.

I was seeing the same problem though -- Norton Firewall 2002 had to be
disabled or I couldn't get on the internet. Unfortunetly, I didn't run
Windoctor before (hopefully) fixing the prob.

After un-installing re-installing Norton Firewall (turning off WinXP's
built-in firewall) and all the updates, its now working fine.

I just ran Windoctor just now though -- and its reporting the exact same
thing:

Missing File: "C:\program files\Common Files\Symatec Shared\SNDSrvc.exe"
"C:\program files\Common Files\Symatec Shared\SNDSrvc.exe" cannot access a
necessary file, "symneti.dll"

Yes, sound like have( and had) the exact same issue with same software, still wondering if the missing file will cause issues with the progam?

Everything has been working fine since re-installing, but I also hope this
won't lead to trouble later.

I also couldn't find anything on Symantec's support web site, web searches,
or even newsgroup searches. Must be a very recent issue.

I thought maybe it might be a path issue, (similiar to the gapi32.dll issue
/w Norton a while back), but a full computer search (including hidden files)
didn't find this smneti.dll

Since we both had what appear to be the identical problem under very
similiar circumstances, I imagine there will be quite a few others as well.

Hopefully Symantec will address it soon.

Yes, you would suspect there would be a large number of folks out there
running NPF 2002 on XP. As the Live Update patch is a manual one, it may be
that more and more people will run into it. It sure would be nice if you
could post questions at Symantec as I think you used to be able to back a
couple years ago.

Have posted to the Symantec site the question along with the issues to the 2004 NPF area informing them of the 2002 problem, will post back here if and when I hear from them. As well, if anyone else finds an answer, please post back here.

Probably get a "cookie-cutter" answer about upgrading to 2004, but I
appreciate the effort. :^)

Thanks!
