System Restore should be able to reset the PC's state back to a
configuration before NIS.

Unless you want to spend an inordinate amount of time trying to
get NIS to work - Return for refund and get an alternate package.
(eTrust 7.0 for AV, Zone Alarm or Sygate Firewall [Both Free])

You didn't tell us what version of NIS you are using.

Remove NIS 2005:

Remove NIS 2004:

Remove NIS 2003:

System Restore should be used as a LAST resort.

It is NIS 2003, the informaton will be very helpful once the system boots.
But that is the problem, it is taking over an hour to boot, any suggestions
to by-pass the normal boot process so I can remove NIS and then go back to a
normal boot?

Can you please tell me if you ever found a solution to your problem as the
same thing has just happened to me? Thanks. If anyone else reads this that
may have an answer I would be very grateful.

If you can't uninstall it go to the Symantec website and get their removal
tool. After NIS is removed use system restore to go back to a restore point
before the NIS install was attempted.

Don't bother with NIS or the other Norton home products such as NAV. There
are other good alternatives that are less resource intensive and less
problematic.
