Norton Internet Security screws up windows

M

Mary Harvey

I upgraded to NIS 2004, and ever since, I've had problems
getting my e-mail(outlook 2000) - unknown errors, pop 3
server errors, 0x800ccc90, 0x800ccc03 errors.

On top of that, some of my other programs run for a
second, then mimimize, only to minimize again after I try
to restore the program. Or the help files will default
back to the main page and I can't read the help pages,
stuff like that.

My virus scan came back as clean, so that's not the
problem. Everything started when I upgraded to NIS 2004.

I spent 3 hours on the phone with Norton, and they said
it's a windows problem. Where do I start looking to fix
these problems? I tried to uninstall NIS, but the errors
keep coming. Everything worked perfectly before I
upgraded, so I don't know what to do. Any suggestions
would be greatly appreciated

Ideas

Try turning off NIS's email incoming/outgoing scanning.
Leave auto protect on. Do not disable autoprotect or
anything else.

Also check for spyware - download Ad-Aware & Spybot
Search & Destroy - use both, make sure you update them.

Hi Mary,

I have no suggestions, but I do offer sympathy. I have been battling
with the exact same problem for a week! Symantec support blames my
server, my internet settings, Outlook, Microsoft, the president of the
U.S., aliens from the planet Zygone and everything else except their
product. I really don't understand why it is everything else, when the
problem only started when upgrading their product.

I have done some research though, and Panda has an internet security
system that is a little more costly than Norton, but I have checked
all through their support faqs and there is nothing mentioning Outlook
problems. If you look at Symantec's support faqs there are dozens of
different sheets explaining all the things that can go wrong. Panda
also automatically updates DAILY not weekly like Norton. Hmmmmm...
maybe it's time to switch?

Good luck and I would love to hear if you ever got your problem
solved, and I will let you know if anything good comes out of my
battle.

I had to dump Nortons Internet Security this week also.. No Idea why it
caused so many problems. It had to be an auto-update they downloaded this
week. Take a look at Micro-Trends PC-Cillin. It has a good rating and has
been fine for me for about a week. They have a price of $49. with a $25
competative upgrade rebate. If the link below doesnt work..look around the
site or you will see it for $49 or $39 special price. Good luck.
