Norton in limbo

I have two hard disks on my computer and recently reformatted the secondary
drive. After loading XP and other programmes I started to install Norton
2004. It loaded and I got to the registration part and it started to do live
update but the system hung. I rebooted and it still said that live update
was still running, this went on forever and I could not get out of it so I
had to use the reset button. I tried to uninstall Norton but still got the
message that it was in use and updating. I deleted the Norton folders and
tried to install Norton 2003 which I have on the other HD. It installed all
of Norton 2003 apart from the virus checker and it tells me to delete the
other version before it can install that part. Presumably some of the
original set-up remains in the registry to prevent me.

Tried that without success. In the end I reinstalled XP and put Norton 2003
on after loading Office and setting up my internet connection. This time no
problems, computers are strange:)

It has worked on my other HD and my other computer for two years. Certainly
better than McAfee that a friend installed on a new computer, next day he
had 52 viruses that it did not deal with, Back to Norton for him as well.
