i am using norton ghost 2003 dos..version..but it wont read a external hard
drive usb.....is there some how to install usb drives to work with norton
ghost to read and write to a usb external hard drive

Ghost 9 will read/write to an external Maxtor USB 2 drive when I use the
Ghost 9 CD to boot to a DOS. You need to check with Symantec for any
patches for such with Ghost 2003. Try:
