Norton firewall 2005 and IIS services

I have a problem, a computer with XPpro, all updates complete. Also have NIS
2005 installed with all the updates. Since day one it has brought the
booting of this computer to its knees. Takes forever and I know it is the
firewall, because when I turn it off, the computer boots straight away. I
figured out what the problem is. For some reason, according to the event
log, it must be blocking IIS services, because the error messages say FTP,
SMTP and web publishing hung on starting and IIS shortcut just freezes the
computer. Services show they are stuck on starting. When I turn the
firewall off, everything loads fine. I've tried reinstalling Norton but same
thing happens. I have looked all thru configurations and created rules for
permitting Microsoft Internet Information Services, but nothing works. I
know the obvious solution is to get rid of Norton but i was wondering if
there is any way around this? Symantec are bloody useless at any relevant
information because of course their product never causes problems. I am
ready to scream.

Any suggestions? Please if you tell me to configure Norton to do something,
please be specific under which menu I find it. I've read a few solutions but
haven't been able to find where they are talking about.

Thank you and have a merry Xmas!!

I'd try going into the firewall, removing all rules and running a program
scan to create all new rules.

Hi, thanks Dave. Nope, I tried it and it didn't work. Deleted all the rules
and redid them. It seems to block it from loading which I can't figure out
why. Sure Microsoft and Symantec worked it out that this is a Windows file!
Only works if I turn the damn firewall off.

Anyone else ideas? The best Xmas present would be a solution!!!

EUREEKA!!!! I solved it. I recreated all the rules but that didn't work.
So I manually added C:\WINDOWS\system32\inetsrv\inetinfo as a program and
told it to permit and that did the trick. What a pain in the butt! But now
everything loads and it boots quickly again.

thanks for the steer in the right direction Dave and Merry Xmas!!!

Your's is NOT an XP problem. It's a Norton problem. Remove Norton and
install a free firewall and a free anti-virus for best results.
