XP & Norton Internet 2005 problem

M

Mujahideen

Hi, i am running XP home SP2 and Norton Internet Security (NIS) 2005. I
have been having trouble getting onto the internet using Firefox since
i last updated it (v1.0.7 i think). Internet explorer works fine. I
have traced this back to my firewall settings (i think) as when i turn
off NIS 2005 firefox works fine again.
Problem: when i try to change the settings for firefox in the firewall
NIS just keeps freezing and the only way i can get it moving again is
"Ctrl Alt Del"
Apart from uninstalling NIS What should i do?
Thanks for your help.

Hi Mark,

Norton AntiVirus and NIS cause increasingly more problems.
I am fed up with it and quit using it LIKE MANY OTHERS.
These products are resource hogs, slow down boot speed and
program launches, fail to update / scan sometimes, fail to detect
virusses while other products did see the virus.

In case of problems, the Symantec knowledgebase advises
frequently to remove and re-install. NAV / NIS.
As even removing doesn't work smooth anymore you may
have to download their special removal / uninstall tool.
After all, even the re-install did not solve the issue..... argh !!!

If you plan the leave the Symantec path, use the removal tool
as well to prevent problems with other security products.

You might try removing all of the NIS rules and letting it do a new program
scan and create new rules.

I've never heard of such a thing. It seems a little troubleshooting to
determine the culprit would be in order before uninstalling things.
I haven't heard him say anything that pointed to NIS 2005 other than he had
it installed.

That's because you are not in the pc repair business.

If it says "Norton" ANYTHING, you know it has to be an overpriced,
bug-riddled, piece of dung, and should be removed and completely
sanatized from any system that anyone cares about.

Symancrap sucks only slightly less than its Symancrapphants!

Thanks for your unsolicited anti-Norton opinion! That wasn't the original
question though.

It wasn't unsolicited. You asked for it by stating you never heard of
uninstalling a Norton product as a way to solve problems they cause.

Norton/Symancrap has earned its reputation that its products blow. Used
to be a good company with good products, but that was years ago. Now,
its just a wrecking ball. Swallowing up good companies and destroying
or killing off those companies' good products.
That wasn't the
original question though.

I wasn't answering the "original question," dimwit. I was answering
your post as to why uninstalling a Norton product is the preferred fix
to Norton problems. Didn't you notice my reply was to you, not to the
OP? Or are you just that dense as to not be aware that my post wasn't
in response to the "original question?"

I would stop using Firefox and only use IE6 fully patched up regularly.
When you bought your Operating System, you have effectively paid to use
Microsoft's flagship Internet Explorer and so make best use of it.

I find that Symantec Products and Microsoft's products work well in
harmony. 3rd party software interferes with smooth operation of my
system so I have stopped using all of them except I still use Netscape
because I like its Messenger.

Resorting to calling names now? Yep, it goes along with your Norton
flaming attitude. When I stop using a software I move on to another. Yes,
I did see that you addressed me but I have to desire to talk to scum like
you. Bye

Nope, just calling a spade by its rightful name.
Yep, it goes along with your Norton

Really? I would have thought it would have went better with a fine
Merlot myself!
When I stop using a software I move on to
another.

And you just stay quiet about it, letting friends, family and such
continue having problems with it? And you call me scum! LOL!

Desire is a streetcar, and you have yet to "talk" to anyone here, though
I'm sure you have to move your mouth as you type.

Another idiot spewing unsupported garbage.

You could at least state *WHY*, but you obviously don't have a clue as to
why.
