Norton auto-protect not working

I recently had to repair Windows XP (SR1) - and everything is fine - except
Norton auto-repair.

I've re-installed all of my software - including Norton - and everything
works. But the auto protect feature of NAV doesn't operate. It doesn't load
when I reboot even though I have set that option. NAV is OK - I can do a
manual check of all my files and I can download virus definitions. But
auto-protect doesn't work.

I've tried re-installing the software. Is this a known problem?
