Norton Antivirus professional wil not open

I recently downloaded from disk Norton Antivirus 2004 professional and Norton
Firewall 2004. All seemed successful but when I click on them a message
flashes on the screen so briefly I had to keep clicking and finally read "You
must restart your computer...", which I did. No help. I went to their web
and was told that I must have Explorer 5 or more, which I should have on the
Dimension 8300 that I got last Christmas. I tried to download that but when
I pushed download, nothing happened. What to do?
