norton antivirus professional 2004 uninstall problem

Hi,

I had Norton antivirus professional 2004 working for a few hours, and
discovered it was interfering with another program, namely autocad.
The patch Autodesk wrote will not work. I couldn't uninstall pro 2004
through the control panel, so I ended up removing the folders from the
program file directory to get autocad to work.

The problem is, it looks like pro 2004 did some other damage. Some web
pages display only a white screen, some load but have links that are
missing, some have links that dont work, etc. I also get a white
screen when trying to access windows help and system restore. I gave
gone into "internet tools" and fully enabled cookies and set security
to "low".

I called dell, and they told me to run "scanreg". I was unable to
fully run the program, because the computer kept telling me a restart
was needed, even after I restarted it. The Dell dude ended up telling
me to reinstall the os (windows ME). I've heard that bull before, and
ended up getting problems fixed without having to do that. Symantec
will not give out tech support without a $30 fee. Way to go Symantec.
By the way, I can't find out how to manually uninstall pro 2004 in
their knowledge base anywhere, although it does mention how to
uninstall previous versions.

Any ideas would be welcome.

Thanks,

Greensteak

Download from the symantec site rnav.exe (remove Norton Anti
Virus) and run it.Or if you have Norton internet security
the file rnis.exe It works well.

Thanks, but I had already downloaded and attempted to run that program
Monday, but I got a message that said rnav.exe will not work with nav
v 16 (2004 I presume). After trying to get the OS functioning again
through Dell, a second opinion was reached by another tech that
supported the first opinion, which was to reinstall the OS. I am going
to upgrade to XP, since it appears NAV pro 2004 ran amuk in ME and
corrupted the registry. And from what I hear, ME was basically a black
sheep in the Microsoft family anyway.

I guess there is now an amendment to the human life cycle: 1 third of
life spent sleeping, 1 half spent awake and functioning, and the rest
spent on downtime f***ing around with computers that go awry.

Thanks for the info on the rnav.exe anyway,

Perhaps you should reinstall 2004Pro and after you get it fully installed
and your final reboots are all finished, attempt another uninstall, only
this time with all of the Norton programs shut down, the Windows\temp file
empty, and no other programs running except for Explorer.
Do you have to shut down the 'restore' feature in ME to do an uninstall of
such an invasive program as SystemWorks?

Thanks, but with all of the trouble as of late, I need to leave the
system alone until I have everything backed up on disk, for the
pending xp upgrade.
I don't know about the "restore" feature, but "System Restore" is not
functioning, and the active desktop won't restore, among 10 or so
other bothersome items. I'm gonna tread lightly until the upgrade.

Thanks again
