My computer runs WinXP. We have already installed XP Service Pack 2.
We also have Norton Internet Security 2004 installed on the system.
A couple of days ago, we ran Microsoft Live Update, and were notified to
install "Microsoft.net framework 1.1 Service Pack 1". It successfully
installed, BUT, upon restarting the system and after all our programs loaded,
the icon for Norton AntiVirus appeared on the system tray with a large red x
through it.
Our AntiVirus is disabled. When we go to enable it. We get an error message:
"Norton AntiVirus has encountered an internal program eror 4004,517". We
have been to Symantec's support site and have followed all the steps to fix
the problem but they do not work.
Another interesting point: If we physically disconnect our computer from our
DSL, NortonAntivirus is enabled.
In other words, after installing the Microsoft.net fix, our AntiVirus is
permanetly disabled unless we disconnect from the Internet.
Does anyone know what is going on and how we can fix the problem?
Thanks,
Morgan
