The page has opened up for me without any problem. Are you using this link:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

Once you have removed Norton Anti Virus then keep it removed. Norton is
useless and causes more problems than it cures. Download the Free version of
Avast Anti Virus www.avast.com and use that instead. An alternative is AVG
http://free.grisoft.com I'm not sure whether they have cured the slight
problem with the on access mail scan yet with AVG and Vista but this can at
least be disabled if necessary.

Well I don't know why I can't? A seperate window opens up it is blank, down
at the bottom it says "done" but nothing shows up, then I get the error
message"The page cannot be displayed" Is there a way you could send it to me
(the file) you can go to my website and get my email address or

I would really appreciate it.

Thank you for the link, I downloaded the removal tool. Asking advice: should
I try and reinstall Norton 2007 or go with the "free" version of AVG? I have
been using Norton products for a long time but seems that they are getting
more and more complacated to use and uninstall. Any help would be
appreciated. Is it safe to go on the web to look at responses without an
anti-virus installed to see what replys I get or should I wait to uninstall?
I may be rambling and don't mean to, just not sure what to do?

Yes I know, I just sent you an email to that address. Thanks for the help, is
it the same file that Brian A. posted the link to?

No, the two files are different versions and different in size.
The version I have is: 2007.2.7.4 and is 816,736 bytes (newer version)
The version from the site Brian mentioned is: 2007.2.2.14 and is 788,064
bytes.

They seem to put out frequent updates to this file since I have to other
'older versions' of this file for the 2007 product.
At this point I would try the one you have and see if it gets the job done.
Post back your results.

I agree with Brian A.....I personally use Avast Free Version and find it fairly good
(and one of the best free A-V apps). AVG has given very poor showings in all A-V
tests, and the free version simply does not update quickly enough to be trustworthy
anymore. I used it and installed it on other users machines in the past, but no
longer. AVAST is the free A-V of choice for me.

While I have no liking for any Symantec products, if you are used to Norton and want
to keep using it, it's a good A-V, though it is too invasive into the operating
system for me. Brian has got it tamed on his system, though he may be using the
superior corporate version rather than the troublesome home version. Among the paid
products, I prefer Eset NOD32, or Kaspersky.

Thanks for all the help. I have the uninstall file now. I didn't notice that
I was supposed to "uninstall" the old version. I assumed the new version
would uninstall the old.

Humm.......I didn't uninstall the old version. I assumed that the new
version would uninstall the old one. The manual didn't really explain to
uninstall the older version. It said "other" I thought that meant different
companies. Thank you again.

Forgot what all it broke, but put bad ju-ju mark on the Symantec removal
tool for my future reference.

I've always uninstalled former versions for NAV including some manual
registry settings the uninstall seems to always "forget" and a few folders
and files. Then, install a newer version of NAV. Try to do after my
yearly reinstall of XP, install the newer NAV instead.

NAV 2007 has problems with ZA per the installation text.

Found out ZA/ZA Pro freebie version 7 creates a problem with NAV 2004
autoprotect. ZA was recently acquired by Trend Micro. Trend Micro makes
its own AV. How circumstantial is this?

Why anyone would make such wild claims is beyond me. Norton Internet
Security, and their latest product Norton 360, cause no problems on any
system that is stable and healthy. I have Norton 360 running on 4
computers, and NIS 2007 on 3. Not a single problem with any of them. I
have been using Norton products since the days when the company was actually
owned by Peter Norton, and have used it on every vintage machine since the
286 on...and I have never had any problems with it at all. It is installed
on every computer in the company I work for (which amounts to nearly 700
computers), and they all run just fine in a heavy production environment.

There is nothing inherently wrong with any Norton product. They are no
worse than anything else on the market, and are a far sight better than
McAfee and Windows OneCare.

Hertz I'm afraid most MVPs would disagree. As I've stated before Norton
causes more problems than it actually cures most MVPs have to deal with the
problems caused by Norton from people who post to these newsgroups, so I'm
sorry but as far as I am concerned Norton is a No No!

I agree that back in the days of Windows 95/98/ME Norton was the de-facto
anti virus but this is certainly not the case now. You only have to look at
when Norton took over Powerquest Drive Image and turned it into Norton
Ghost. They simply ruined a damn good imaging application (drive image, I
mean). To give them the benefit of the doubt I even downloaded Norton Ghost
because I was attempting to answer a query by a newsgroup poster. The damn
thing wouldn't even install let alone work. After spending hours trying to
get it to install I ended up deleting it. There are certainly far better
products out there than Norton or McAfee for that matter. As for Microsoft
Onecare - well there we are in agreement because, even though I use it on my
test machine (simply for testing purposes) I certainly don't like it. It has
nothing to offer that you can't already get from freeware software.
