Hi to all,
I'm trying to create a guestbook (fp template) for a site I've been working
on .
When I publish the guestbook thru FP 2000 and then try it out I get the
norbots.htm. I've not been able to open site thru FP as described on
serveral sites in order to edit the reference line out. Was wondering if
there's any other method to get the guestbook to work.

thanks
noe

NORTBOTS:
nortbots.htm only appears in four cases:
1) You are testing on a disc-based website, including a FrontPage
disc-based web that is being browsed through a web-server.
2) You are testing on a website that does not have server extensions
installed or running
3) The site (or form page) was FTPed from a disc-based web, or
published using a FTP address for the destination. Publish must be to a URL
of the form http://www.example.com. The host must then run a health check
or reinstall the FP server extensions.
4) There is a bug associated with FrontPage98 which causes this
problem.

The guestbook must be HTTP published to a server running the FrontPage
extensions. If you have used FTP then the extensions are probably
corrupted and to be re-installed or repaired.

Before you try again, bear in mind that the FrontPage guestbook is a
spam magnet - there are bots that look for FP guestbooks and fill them
with links to Casino sites and worse.

FYI,
nortbots.htm only appears in five cases:

1) You are testing on a disc-based website, including a FrontPage
disc-based web that is being browsed through a web-server.

2) You are testing on a website that does not have server extensions
installed or running.

3) The site (or form page) was FTPed from a disc-based web, or
published using a FTP address for the destination, or published to a
file system destination including a network share or UNC address (like
\\machinename\path\webname), or to an address like C:\sitename .
Publish must be to a URL of the form http://example.com

4) The site was correctly published, but the extensions were not
installed correctly or were mis-configured. Re-installing the
extensions may correct the problem.

5) There is a bug associated with FrontPage98 which causes this
problem.

Hi noe,

The norbots message (No Run Time Bots) along with not being able to open
your site live are symptoms that the FrontPage Extensions are not properly
installed or configured on the server..or that they are installed but
corrupted. If you can get your host to install the FrontPage extensions the
guestbook hopefully will then work for you. If not then ask your host if
they have a script you can use, or else search the Internet for guest book
scripts.

thanks to for the quick replies,

I was told the sever had fp extensions installed but like it's mentioned
on the replies they might be corrupted.

I was also concerned about the spammers filling out the guestbook, that's
why I
originally set the guestbook with an email icon, so I could filter the
entries and
then post them.

thanks again
