Normal Template in Recent Accessed File List

I am using Office 2000, and Word has just started accessing the Normal.dot
template every time Word is closed. It shows up in the status bar at the
bottom of the screen. When I reopen Word, the Normal.dot template shows up
as the last accessed file on the Recent File List. I have just recently
installed OmniPage Pro 14 Office and as an extra item, it installed
OfficeReady Professional which has a lot of specialized templates. I also
have Works install and before this installation could be done, Word had to
be removed form Works. This is about the time I realized the problem. Does
anyone know what I could do to correct the problem with the Normal.dot
template? Thanks.

It's not clear from your message whether you are saying that you have
already installed the Microsoft Works Suite Add-in for Word. If not, do that
first, as it does definitely cause Word to save Normal.dot at exit. If
you've already done that, then it's a good bet that the add-in from OmniPage
is the culprit. You'll just have to choose whether the benefit offered by
the add-in is worth the aggravation of saying no every time you're prompted
to save Normal.dot (do make sure you have "Prompt to save the Normal
template" enabled on the Save tab of Tools | Options; otherwise, you don't
even get a chance to say no).

I have uninstalled OfficeReady Professional, reinstalled the Word Add-In to
Works, enabled the Save Normal Template command and still have the same
results. If I choose "yes" to save the normal template, word saves it and
then accesses another or the same normal.dot file which is then listed as
the first file in the Recent File List when I reopen word. If I choose "no"
when asked about saving the normal template, word does not show the saving
process but still accessess the normal.dot file and places it in the Recent
File List. Each time the last normal.dot file is 0 characters and my
personal normal.dot file is about 500 km in size. Any further help?
