Every time I exit WORD 2002, I get this message: "Changes have been made
that affect the global template....etc etc". How can I get rid of this
bothersome message?

The KB articles to which I could refer you will suggest that the way to
prevent this message is to clear the check box for "Prompt to save Normal
template" on the Save tab of Tools | Options. That's like taking the battery
out of your smoke detector; it doesn't treat the cause, only the symptoms.
You need to find out what is changing Normal.dot. If you're not doing it,
something else is.

The usual culprit is a poorly written add-in, so you can start by looking
for add-ins. See section 4 of
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ProbsOpeningWord.htm and note that not
all add-ins will show up in Tools | Templates and Add-ins (see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/CheckIfAddinsInstalled.htm). Some
add-ins won't be detected even this way, however. Among the most notorious
are the Microsoft Works Suite Add-in for Word and the Office Plug-in in
Norton AntiVirus. Neither adds any necessary functionality to Word, and the
first can be uninstalled and the latter disabled without loss (and to your
considerable benefit).

I uninstalled "Microsoft Works Add-in for Microsoft Word" and the problem is
solved. Thanks.
