Changes to Normal.dot message

Every time I exit Word 2002, I get the following message "Changes have been
made that affect the global template Norman.dot. Do you want to save those
changes?" I get this message even though I haven't made any changes. Is
there a way to get rid of this message?

Usually it is a badly written add-in causing the problem. this includes most
add-ins from Symantec, Norton and Adobe. See the following FAQ for help
finding the little bugger.

If you just started seeing it this week, and if you are in a region where
the time changed on Sunday, that might be the reason. I have noticed that I
get that prompt every time the time changes. I can verify that I will get it
even if I open Word and close it immediately without doing *anything*, so it
seems to be both inevitable and harmless. I can also verify that Word will
keep prompting until you finally throw in the towel and say yes.

If you say yes once and get a prompt again the next time you quit Word, then
the cause is more likely the add-ins Terry mentioned.

This is a known problem with how Windows handles the change between
regfular and DS time. It's beenm like this since at least Windows
98, and affects any program that looks at timestamps of files.

The good news is that it lasts only 22 hours. After the day of the
time change, the file timestamps don't get confsed any more ...
till the next time change.

It's interesting that you say there's a 22-hour limit, as my experience has
been that over the course of several days, once Word has started asking, it
will keep asking till I break down and give in.

Just scanning posts and came across this and it caught my eye as I had the
same thing happen last week. I'd never heard of a '.dot' document and had no
idea what it meant. It went away on its own. Now I know why!
