I have recently edited normal.dot to change the way a new mail message
will appear in outlook 2003. Outlook is using word as its editor. I
then realized that this will change the way a "blank" document will
appear in word.

Is there anyway to have 2 separate .dot files be loaded? Such as,
could I possibly create some sort of shortcut to "/load" a different
template in word and/or outlook. Or if I don't use word as my editor,
is there anyway to load a .dot file into outlook?

Any help/ideas are appreciated.

Hi Drec,

I was under the impression that an Outlook email (started from within
Outlook) uses the template email.dot and not normal.dot, but it would
probably be better to ask about this in an OUTLOOK newsgroup...

I don't really think this is an outlook post. I am not using outlook
as the editor for the email, since it doesnt have the features that
word has. Instead, Outlook is using Word as the editor and in fact
loads up Normal.dot (I believe email.dot was used in previous versions
of offce, however i Have office 2003).

The only possible solution I have found is to create a new .dot file
and create a shortcut to this for word. I was hoping there would be a
different way with word itself to load a different .dot file
automatically or have the option to select a different template.

If you use Word as an editor for Outlook then you are going to have to be
vey careful about how you arrange your toolbars or Outlook's different
requirements will screw them up. This is a particular problem if you have
addins that write to the toolbars, especially the wayward Acrobat. The
answers are
1. Don't use Word as e-mail editor. Outlook's own editor is quite up to the
job of writing e-mails
or
2. Start from Word and pop up the e-mail toolbar.
It is not possible to have two normal templates.
