Hello,

I'm using Office XP Pro SP3 on Windows XP Pro SP2 clients.
Why would a normal.dot file be missing? Even if it's deleted, shouldn't a
new one automatically be created when I open Word?

Have you checked hidden files in the folder defined at tools > options >
file locations > user templates?

No, I just ran a search for normal.dot and it found nothing.
After your post, I did find a normal.dot in the path you specified.
Why didn't the search find it in the beginning?

Without knowing what exactly you searched for and where you searched, it is
impossible to say, but my guess is that you didn't request a search for
hidden files.
