In the past we have been able to create a normal.dot and save it to the
network, then when we rebuild a new computer we copy that normal.dot down to
the templates directory.

it appears now though changes to that networked version aren't saving. so
its not getting updated.. but appears to be on the person that makes the
changes.

any thoughts.

Only Word can create a normal.dot. Company personalisations should be in
document templates (shared given that you have a network) and global
add-ins. Leave normal.dot alone.

The correct operation of normal.dot is impaired by the installation of the
full version of Acrobat 7 - see the last section of
http://www.gmayor.com/lose_that_adobe_acrobat_toolbar.htm

You should _not_ be sharing or propogating normal.dot. See
http://addbalance.com/word/movetotemplate.htm for step-by-step instructions
on moving / sharing / copying / backing-up customizations including
AutoText, AutoCorrect, keyboard assignments, toolbars, macros, etc, without
sharing normal.dot.
