Normal.dot problems

I can't find this problem in any of the posts. I work for a global company;
my location is in the U.S. I recently received a Word document from an
employee in Singapore. Now, my normal.dot is changed--I'm getting items like
the "Japanese Consistency Checker", under Customize I'm seeing the "Japanese
Greetings" toolbar option, under Options, there are tabs for "Asian
Typography" and "Japanese Find". Also, there are markings on a blank
document that do not print but are very annoying when I am typing a document.
I have tried renaming every single instance of normal.dot to
normal_old1.dot, old2.dot, etc. and this keeps coming up. What can I do?
Can anyone please help?

All of that comes from having Japanese language support enabled. The article
at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/839371 explains how to turn it off.
