install runs, tells me it completed successfully, but DXDIAG reports

DirectX is still 9.0b. What can i do?

Install WinXP SP2. It includes DirectX 9.0c

DXINFO and DXTOOL will also report the version, what do they say?

Check for a display driver update for your system from the manufacturer
of the adaptor.

Sometimes you also have to install the latest video drivers.
