Non Compatible Spyware Doctor with Install

Getting the red X stating I must close my Vista and uninstall Spyware Doctor.
I had Spyware Doctor about 5 months ago and uninstalled it. No folder in the
program folder for this product.I can't find any rogue files and cleaned my
registry the Vista install still sees it. I've searched forums & newsgroups
to find a manual uninstall or at least what file to look for to no avail.

I went as far as finding a free version and installing it and then
uninstalling it but Vista still finds it.

I am *updating* XP Home to Vista; not doing a clean install.

I read in another post that someone was able to bypass this conflict and
continue the update. I don't have that option on my install.

Also, is it necessary to uninstall the software that is not compatible with
Vista, not the one's it tells you to remove but the list of non compatibles
like WS FTP, Quicktime 6, etc.

Thanks for helping...this is like a thorn in my side and I have to get it
resolved or I'll never sleep...LOL>

Judy...the last Spy Sweeper that worked with XPx64 and Vista was version 4.5.
Anything in the 5.x range is incompatible, as you found out.

Uninstalling SS is flat difficult, and I can only suggest that you revisit
the registry and look for anything that remotely looks like SS or its parent
company.

Vista (during an upgrade) removes all the programs and essentially does a
clean install, then puts those programs back in. Prior to RC1, any driver
that it does not see as 'signed', it will reject, and will not install back
any of your XPx86 programs that you had. The chances for failure are many.
And yes, those programs must be uninstalled prior to installing Vista.

You may find that you have either lost your XP, or if not, need to clean
install Vista, then manually install the 'accepted' programs.

Last but not least, if your two partitions are one HD, you will be able to
share file between the two OS systems. Good luck.

Thanks Jack....I was getting so impatient and frustrated I just did a clean
install and *WOW* my PC's never run better...course I have not programs other
than the Vista proggies. It was time for a format anyway!

I tried to install on my external hard drive but didn't like that as it's a
USB connection. That needs to be fixed.

Question: When I run the updates to Vista I'm not getting any patches. Is
there a link to see if there's any updates not auto installing?

Thanks again for your help!
