NOLF2 causing "STOP" error

It happens in the same level ("Prisoner Bin") where I'm in the large arena-like room (with a circular-enclosed entry point). The sound turns all crackly after a minute or so, and then I'll get a blue-screen "STOP" error soon thereafter (but not all the time--sometimes it'll occur after I quit NOLF2).

The error, specifically, is:

STOP: 0x0000001E (0xC0000005, 0x804CD1E6, 0x00000000, 0x00000024)
KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

Address 804CD1E6 base at 80400000, DataStamp 3df90c0d - ntoskrnl.exe

I'm running Win2K SP3 with all the latest critical updates installed (last 2 were a couple days ago but I can't remember if this problem happened before them). I suppose I could try uninstalling them and seeing but I wanted to see what help was out there first.

I've also noticed my mouse getting "twitchy" (jumping in small increments every so often at seemingly random intervals--perhaps when hard disk is accessed) but I don't know when it specifically started happening. Perhaps after upgrading video drivers, network card drivers, and/or audio chip drivers.

I just love computers...<blink>

Um, it doesn't occur in win32k.sys. The MS site has nothing about this particular error.

Well, I will not flame you, but I will not help you either.

No, I don't flame/insult people ask for stupid help without doing a bit of research first. I've done the research. Now I'm asking for help. <shrug>

I think Eep just needs to "evolve". That appears to be his most common
advice when others are in trouble, no reason for it not to work in this
situation.

Suck filter here (m.p.w.g) too, troll.

I mean Tron 2.0, not NOLF2. I was thinking of the same engine (LithTech).

Uhm, with all your shrugging and blinking, maybe it's just you being
twitchy that's causing the problem?
but I don't know when it specifically started happening. Perhaps after upgrading video drivers, network card drivers, and/or audio chip drivers.

I'm pretty sure it's your FSB. Try removing it.

I've tried disabling hardware sound and EAX in Tron's setup window (before the game loads). I suppose I could give DirectX Diagnostics a try but I don't see how it would be any different than Tron's setup window...

Eep,

Why not buy a soundcard for your computer if onboard audio is giving
you so much trouble? A Fortissimo III seems to be OK, doesn't cost
alot, and it only has problems with Battlefield 1942 (but alot of
soundcards seem to). Creative probably is the best for game
compatability, but they are very expensive. Just my 2 cents, a
soundcard could be worth saving your pennies for. It's great
motherboards are having more onboard audio, but the quality varies
alot- the only one I'd really like to have is NForce 2's sound becaues
it's fairly fast and it uses the Sensaura engine.

I HAVE a sound card (Diamond Sonic S100) but it's not a 6-channel one like the built-in audio chip is. I probably WILL get a better sound card eventually (or just revert back to the S100), but I find it odd that this "STOP" error is occurring at THIS particular point in time in Tron 2.0 ONLY. Why didn't it happen before this level or in another game? It just doesn't make sense. Rolling back to the previous sound driver didn't fix it either so I'm thinking it must be one of the Win2K critical updates I've installed recently. Blah...I wish Microslop would test their shit better...

Hi Eep,

I have this problem also - I'm running XP, and "Tron 2.0" crashes in
that same place (or afterwards, if you disable the sound between saves
and re-enable it) - with the same symptomps (sound getting raspy,
etc).
I think the problem is caused by the sound driver - I too have a
C-Media AC97 chipset onboard. I've tried to download the latest
drivers, both from MSI (my motherboard provider) and from C-Media, but
the problem remains. BTW, the only app that caused the computer to
crash is Tron...

If you find any solution (other than to get a sound card), please
post.

Thanks,

Assaf
