NOD33 Error Message

Hello. I get the following message under "scanning log" when I run the NOD32
on-demand scanner. The message occurs before I actually run the scan.

Scanning Log
NOD32 version 1.563 (20031125)NT
Checking CRC of the NOD32.EXE file: status OK
Operating memory is OK.
Error occured while scanning MBR sector of the 3. physical disk. Error
reading sector.

Does anyone know what this means? The scan appears to proceed normally
otherwise.

I have 2 physical disks each of which has 2 partitons. I don't know what
"3.physical disk" means.

Thanks for any help,

Wayne

Just guessing, check your cmos settings, to see if you have a third
drive defined there, even though it doesn't exist.

Also, assuming windows, check in the device manager (Right click on
my computer, select properties, device manager), and see if a
non-functioning hd is defined there.

Do you have anything or something like scramdisk, which the scanner
might see as a hd, but can't access, when not mounted?

Good thought ... I have 4 IDE devices listed in CMOS:

Primary Master Sony DVD
Primary Slave Segate Tape Drive
Secondary Master Maxtor HDD0
Secondary Slave Maxtor HDD1

Interestingly, the "Scanning targets" window in NOD32 in [My Profile] lists
the 4 hard drive partitions (Drives C D E & F), the floppy drive (A), the
CD-ROM drive(G), and a virtual drive (Z, defined by Circle VirtualDrive for
mounting virtual CD images). It does not list the Segate tape drive. I
believe this does not show up as a drive letter, but is only accessable via
Verital Backup Exec Pro (provided with the Segate drive).

So, I wonder if the message refers to the tape drive?

I could try making it inactive in the XP hardware manager and see what
happens.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Don't worry and don't disable anything this message had me thinking a boot
sector virus or something - as noted by Dave - all devices come up in the
log check depending on the drives you setup - check especially removable
disks eg zip drives cf readers etc.

I get several 'errors' unless I have media in the drives. I suggest trying
a scan with a tape in your reader to see if the error disappears.
