No WWW pages load on IE 7 (even tho they do on Firefox)

Hi

Here's my problem 'briefly':
- Running Internet Explorer 7 beta 2.
- No Web pages from the WWW load and IE appears to be waiting for something
to happen; hardly any processor usage or HDD activity (the window icon at
this point is the white APP icon, not the blue and gold IE icon).
- IE responds as usual and I can interact with it fully - like changing
settings, using the buttons, entering a different address, etc. BUT all that
is being displayed is a white space. NOTE: The page download progress bar is
NOT displayed and there is NO connection activity in the taskbar notification
area (I use a 512Kbps DSL PPPoE connection).
- THIS IS NOT A CONNECTION PROBLEM because Firefox displays pages quite
rapidly while IE sits around blinking.
- IMP: I AM able to display HTML pages on my computer using IE though.
- If I press stop when this white space is being displayed I get the
'Navigation to the webpage was cancelled' page.

This kind of behavior by IE has left me baffled and all sorts of setting
changes has not helped. I couldn't find any knowledge base article on this
either.

I would really appreciate it if a solution to this was shared with me. Thank
you!

P.S. The problems started after installing IE 7 beta (though I have faced a
similar problem on IE 6 a long time back; soln then? : reinstall windows).
Note: IE 7 used to work fine on a previous installation of Windows XP on the
same computer.
