When I go into Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices and
click the "Place volume icon on the taskbar" box, I get
an error message: "Windows cannot display the Volume
Control on the taskbar because the Volume Control program
has not been installed. To install it, use Add/Remove
Programs in the Control Panel." This problem started
after a power outtage today and a re-start from a
Recovery Point. When I go to the CD to add the Volume
Control program, that's not an option provided. And I
don't find a Volume Control download on the Windows
website or elsewhere. What am I missing??? Thanks.

Nick, rt click on Taskbar>select Properties>Customize>Click on Volume if
there and choose Always Show
in the Behavior column. You can go to Start>Run type: sfc /scannow
with the WinXP CD in the cdrom
drive. That will do a system file check and attempt to fix or replace any
corrupt system files.
