I have fire wire hooked to a JVC-DVL520U, the computer recognizes the DV CAM
but when I go to capture the video output from play, there is no video
display and it will not capture, the controls under Movie Maker can control
the DV Cam, I have SP2, I have used the DV cam on my laptop so I knopw the
Cam works. I have replaced all the drivers updated everything I can think of
but no Video out. I hooked up a web cam and get video displayed in the view
feid. I am going to try replacing my fire wire card. Any other suggestions
would be greatful.

Hello;
Before you go and purchase another 1394 card, this behavior has been caused
by Windows Media Player.
If you have WMP-10, uninstall that first, and then re-install it. That may
correct the problem.
If not, uninstall 10 and install WMP-9 first, and see if this corrects the
problem.
If you have WMP-9, try installing WMP-10

I'd also suggest updating direct x, and adding windows encoder if you
haven't already got it.

Thanks for all the input, The problem ended up being my Fire Wire card, I
replaced it with 3 port firewire card and everything is working. Guess it was
so obvious that it didn't make sense to swap it out. I did learn a lot about
all this. Thnaks again.
