Hi,

I have XP Home and notice that my videos do not show as thumbnails I just
see an icon. All of my photos and many other formats show as thumbnails but
not any video.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Waldo

Try this, maybe it will restore the thumbs:

go to...Start / Run and type
(or copy/paste):

"regsvr32 shmedia.dll"
(without the quotes)(Yes, there's
a space between 2 and S)

Click...OK.

A dialog box should report the following:

"DllRegisterServer in shmedia.dll succeeded"

Nope, no effect.

Might it be something in the registry?

Did you see the "DllRegisterServer in
shmedia.dll succeeded" dialog?

Sorry, I don't know what would be causing it.

Did the video thumbs ever display on this
computer.

Yes the success message appeared. No I do not think I've ever seen video
thumbnails.

I'm starting to think that this problem is related to my not being able to
use Windows Movie Maker. I also cannot see video thumbnails when I use Nero
to create a DVD but I can edit video in Nero.

Strange eh....

Try going to the following page:

Have a look at the following reg. files:

What happens when you try to
launch Movie Maker?

When I try to select a clip I get "class not registered". Nothing has been
able to change this.

What about the video thumbs?

For the "class not registered"...no
guarantees...but it might be worth
a try to run the following command.

Go to...Start / Run...and type (or copy / paste)
the following...

regsvr32 %windir%\system32\qdv.dll
(yes, there's a space between the first 2 and %)

Press Enter.

You should see a dialog that says:

DllRegisterServer in C:\WINDOWS\system32\qdv.dll succeeded
