no video adapters

I was attempting to update my video drivers. I uninstalled my current
drivers and now somehow windows thinks I have an unknown video card and
won't let me update any drivers.

I have a msi ms-starforce geforce fx 5200, I've downloaded the drivers,
but they do me no good unless I can install them.

I'm assuming there's probably something simple I've missed.

tom, go to your device manager then select the? video adapter then when
prompted select a driver select install from specific location then point it
to where you saved your driver file. But first try going to www.nvidia.com and
download the drivers .when you install them they should correct your
problem.I have a fx 5500 andhad the same problem

well that's just the thing, there is no video adapter in device manager
(hidden or otherwise), unless I don't see were it should be.

Look for Display Adapters :)

okay, if I go into system info, it at least sees, my card, however it is
listed under problem devices with a VxD loader error, any ideas on what
to do next?

Not sure if you got this resolved or not, but the file from nvidia
should be an exe file and if you run that file it should find and
install the drivers for your card.

Also, VxD files are for Windows 95/98/ME only. XP does not use VxD files
for drivers. Download and install the XP drivers.

I already did both those things, but neither worked. From what I can
tell, XP is encountering an error when it tries to load the video card
drivers on boot, so running the exe after the fact does no good since
the computer doesn't know about the card. If I try to go in through the
display|settings|advanced menu, under video adapter I get vgasave only,
with no driver update capability
