No value calculated

"Calculate" appears on the bottom left of the toolbar next to "Ready". For
some reason this freezes all my functions and no value is calculated. Can
youhelp me disable the "calculate" function?

In Excel, click on Tools | Options | Calculate | Automatic | OK.

Also, if you are running XL2000, make sure you are updated to at least SR1a.
(Actually, regardless of Excel version, make sure you are up-to-date with
Service Releases.)
