When I start windows xp pro it brings me to the welcome
screen. However there are no accounts to log on to and
that is as far as i get get into the system. I have tried
getting the NT look and manually putting my password and
account name in but says there is no account. How can i
start my computer so I do not have to see any of the
welcome screen and get to dos so I can restore my system
to a version that worked? Also could you tell me the
commands to get to the restore points that I need. Thank
You

I'm researching a solution to the same problem. A
friend's computer started doing this the day after I did
a ground-up installation of XP Pro on his machine. He
used it for a few hours and then restarted at some
point. When his Welcome screen came back up, there were
no user icons to click. Ctrl+Alt+Del won't accept the
user name. "Error: The local policy does not permit you
to logon interactively."

Other threads attribute this to users being set to
the "Deny Logon Locally" user right. Article 276590
tells how to use the Ntrights utility in Windows 2000
server to set the correct access rights from the command
line.

Problem is...XP doesn't have a command line unless you
can get into the OS. If all the accounts are locked out,
how can we get in there to reset permissions. (And, in
that case, how did they get pooched in the first
place?!?!)

Any insights?
