No USB DEVICE icons in ' MY COMPUTER'

Hi, when I plug any USB devices into my PC ( it happened with old
motherboard and this new one!) my PC makes the 'connected ok' sound but no
icon is created in 'My Computer or 'explorer' and no usb devices show under
the 'send to' list. Can anybody PLEASE help?

Thanks in anticipation.

What kinds of devices? You need to give more details to gather more than
guesses.

ANY USB devices - they are recognised, as plugged in, and then installed.
Message says 'installed and ready to use' but no icon appears - anywhere?

Thanks

Many thanks.
I have just checked bios and upon starting, the bios recognises ALL USB
devices connected, and even correctly describes them as HIGH SPEED. It is
only when XP loads that icons are not created when plugged and unplugged. I
suspect it may be registry, any good (free) utilities for sussing specific
registry problems?

Thanks
