when i try to boot my pc it does not find my sytem win
2000. i tried to repair it with norton disk doctor and
tried to get my data with linux, but everything failed..:-(
is there anybody with sugesstions, how to secure my files
before formatting the harddisk again? it is a
ntfs-partition by the way.
thx.

what does it say: "ntldr missing"? if so, do you know where the os is
installed? if so, you may be able to create a new boot.ini file that points
to the os partition (system partition) and place it on a floppy, then use
the floppy to boot. the boot.ini file is just a regular text document with a
..ini extension, so you can create it with any text editor. you can use the
following pages to guide you in creating the file:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;102873 and
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/...Windows/XP/all/reskit/en-us/prmc_str_masc.asp
dont worry, this file is the same on all vertions of nt/2k/xp/2k3.
if that doesnt work, you can always create a parallel installation of w2k
and use this to remove your data prior to format/reinstall. i have used this
procedure several times and it works well.

hope this helps,

Dan
