no standby

hiya i have a problem, when i click 'start' and then 'turn off computer'
there is no standby option. it is there but i cant but its faded and i
cant click on it. i have tried changing this in power options in
control panel but to no avail. any help would be brilliant?

Make sure that you have all your device drivers installed properly. You can
go to the Device manager and anything that is unknown will have a yellow '!'
beside it - so, a driver needs to be installed for that device. Also, make
sure that your vdieo card/video chipset drivers are properly installed.
Windows will not allow you to put the computer into stand-by mode until the
proper device drivers are inplace.
