No Space Before first paragraph Word 2007

I have set a style to have 12 pt Space Before in the paragraph settings. When
the style is the first paragraph, there is no space before added, but the
space before setting takes effect in subsequent paragraphs. Is there a "first
paragraph on page" option that I've missed?

From the Tools menu, select Options and then go to the Compatibility tab of
the Options dialog. There are a couple of settings there for Suppressing
Line Spacing and Space Before

Hope this helps.

Spacing Before is never suppressed at the beginning of a document or section.
You can suppress it before a manual page or column break, though, by
selecting the appropriate compatibility option (Office button | Word Options,
Advanced category).

Note that if the style should always start a new page, you can specify the
"Page break before" option (Modify Style dialog box, Format, Paragraph) and
set the Spacing Before to zero.

Thanks for responding, Doug and Stefan. I have read every option on the
Advanced button and can't see the appropriate compatibility option that would
solve this problem. Could you be more specific?
