no sounds help!!!!!!

i have no sound on my laptop
it runs on windows xp
it says sound card not installed
it cannot find driver
think i must have deleted it somehow
don't know much about computers!!!!!!!!!

try checking mute buttons in start/controlpanel/sound
uncheck the mute buttons.

Do you have a sound card in the first place? I mean did you use to have
sound before?

Have you tried the add new hardware wizard? What hardware does it show
that you can install?

Have you managed to solve your problem? It seems
common. WEre you hit by the blasterworm because my
system started failing after this. I spoke to the
manufacturer of my computer and they told me to take it
back to the vendor if it is insured or under warranty!
But if there is a way out, let me know... Exactly the
same problem and judging from others, it seems pretty
common.
