No Sound

I have tried everything but my sound just doesn't work. I am not sure if it
is my sound card or my speaker. I have gone through all of the
troubkeshooting tutorials and still nothing I don't even think that I can get
system sounds. I tried that whilr going through a tutorial and it told me to
click asterick and then chord and click play, still no sound. can someone
please help me.
