no sound

my computer had a bad virus and i had to delete several programs. i think i
have deleted one of my media/sound devices, because when i go into "sounds
and audio devices" it says that there is no audio device. how do i get it
back?

If you have an onboard sound port, find your motherboard brand and version
from the web and download the sound driver to reinstall it. If you are using
a sound card, locate the CD that came with out and reinstal the driver. If
you can't find it, download it from the manufacturer website.

i went into sound devices and it said that Realtek AC'97 Audio was missing,
so i looked for it on the internet and downloaded it, thinking it would solve
the problem. all i got was a new media player/ mixer for music. my sound is
still not working, and i'm still confused! lol
