no sound

IM absoutely stumped,
I have no sound at all from my speakers,
Ok some back History, first
I had two viru's which affected my computer( I have run my AV programme -
( Which is a free one from ( NTL Netguard) it identified them they were
W32/myztic.F@troj and a W32/ spybot worm and now Im virus free, BUT I have
two "Major" problems and I think my registry has been changed.
First when I try to load the windows xp ( service pack 2) firewall I get
this message
[ windows cannot start the firewall internet connections sharing (ICS)
service ].
BUT the biggest problem is I have no sound,
I have dis-installed the Creative sound blaster from device manager-I ran
the cd and dis-installed everything as well- after dis-installing from Device
manager.
REbooted and still no sound.
I do remember h getting a warning a few days before saying something about
codecs missing in windows media player- and then another warning about a (
KERNEL?) not being found.
and I left the computer running -I still had sound. then when I turned it
off and turned it on again -NO SOUND
-- ALSO I saw another box come up from the anti virus a while before saying
that it could not disinfect a file so it was deleted, it was a C:\system
\volume- file? I think.
any body got any ideas?

totally stumped!

You could spend hours/days trying to fix this.
Fastest thing to do is an install from scratch.
Copy all the data you need off the computer
first, then use a "disk wiper" program ( writes
zeros to the whole thing). Then repartition and
reformat and then install XP, then the drivers
then the updataes and finally the software and
then put the data back on. This is the only
way to ensure that you know exactly what's on
your computer. If you are worried about cmos
level viruses then you might want to flash your
bios just to be safe.
