No sound when I logon/logoff/restart/start or exit windows.

4 months after re-installing xp pro, I lost the wav sounds when I logon off,
restart, start, and exit windows. I know I have the wav files under media and
I've gone to start/control panel/sounds speech and audio devices/sounds &
audio devices properties/sounds....I've scrolled down and it shows the sounds
for each function and when I hit play, it plays. But when I'm logging on/off
restarting exiting or starting windows, it never plays. Nothing is muted
either. Any help would great.

I had already done that before posting.....doesn't fix the issue. Any other
suggestions?
